Regency Sterling Silver Well-and-Tree Platter, hallmarked Sheffield, 1818-1819, by Kirkby, Waterhouse & Co., of oval form, with applied gadrooned rim quartered by foliate-mantled flowers, raised on four robust foliate-crested lion's paw feet, engraved on the long sides with the crest and motto of Cathcart of Ayrshire, l. 22", w. 16-3/4", 91.95 t. oz.


  • Condition: Overall Condition: Good. Scattered scuffs and scratches consistent with age and use, including a number of light knife scrapes on the plateau, but no dents, breaks or repairs noted. Moderate wear to the highest relief of the border and the engraved crest. Hallmarked (on the underside) with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the Sheffield crown; 3) the date letter "I" for 1818-1819; 4) the George III bust duty mark; and 5) the "IK IW & Co." maker's mark of Kirkby, Waterhouse & Co.
