Regency Tortoiseshell Tea Caddy
first quarter 19th century, English, the swell-front caddy with a cove-molded cover, veneered with tortoiseshell and inlaid with silver on the edges, the two-compartment foil-lined interior set with tortoiseshell covers, on brass ball feet.

Condition: **Exterior very good overall with a very small horizontal crack near lower edge on one side and a small crack at one rear hinge where one element of this hinge has been replaced. The other hinge is loose in its slot. Stringing lacking along the top edge of the body on one side. Locking mechanism not operable. The interior top covered with somewhat worn claret velvet.
The compartments retain traces of the original paktong (not foil) with an open shrinkage crack across the lower portion. Both covers bowed with general shrinkage around the perimeters.
All of the above consistent with age and use.
