Six-Piece Collection of Sevres and Vincennes-Sevres Porcelain

mid-18th century, French, the collection with a bleu celeste ground, including a covered sucrier and stand decorated with panels of birds and flowers, framed with raised gilt borders, the base of the bowl marked with interlacing L's and a "C" for 1755, the mark on the stand likely added at a later date, h. 5", w. 8-3/4", d. 6-1/2", two "gobelets litron" decorated with portraits framed with jewels and tooled, gilt scrollwork, h. 2-3/4", dia. 2-3/4", and two saucers decorated with floral panels and tooled, gilt scrollwork, dia. 5-1/2", the "gobelets litron" and saucers marked with interlacing overglaze blue L's and no date letter, indicating a manufacture date of 1750-1753.


Provenance: Collection of Julia Brooks and Clarke Thomas Reed, Greenville, Mississippi.


  • Condition: **Sucrier and bowl INTERIORS exhibit scattered glaze "dirt" and rough areas. None of these fluoresce.

    SUCRIER:
    COVER: Handle with old professional repairs at both ends with a rough spot within one adjacent gilt scroll. Indentations within lobes with small old firing cracks. The undersides secured with old spots of clear glaze at some point (none of these fluoresce). TINY nick to edge at one end. Avian reserves clear. Cover not marked.
    BOWL: Areas of "lemon peel" glaze below the upper edge and around the narrow foot. Avian reserves clear.
    Bowl mark is detail #2. There is also an underglaze blue "x" at the interior of the foot.
    STAND: Overall excellent condition with very minor rubbing and very small surface cracks to gilt "frame" around the floral reserve. This reserve with an underglaze circular indented area at the purple flower (approx. 1/2" dia.).
    Stand mark is detail #3.
    GOBELETS LITRON: Overall good condition with matte and bright parcel gilt decoration. Losses to several white "jewels". Portraits clear.
    SAUCERS: Matching parcel gilt decoration generally good with some wear to recessed perimeter band. This band lacking all original "jewels". Floral reserves clear with a shallow diagonal surface scratch to one side example.
