Swedish Neoclassical Giltwood Mirror, second quarter 19th century, with spiral-reeded pilasters terminating in acanthus-carved capitals beneath carved medallions, the upper tablet with a pitch pediment over a molded lunette, decorated with a central lyre flanked by carved leaves and berries, h. 71-1/2", w. 32".

  • Condition: In overall very good condition. The piece exhibits evidence of some past inpainting and re-gilding in addition to what appear to be substantial elements of the original surface. It exhibits normal shrinkage to the wood and gilt, rubbing to the gilt, and some losses to the gilt revealing the underlying wood or gesso. The projecting molding just above the mirror plate is missing its foliate adornment from its underside, at one corner and both returns. The areas of loss have been colored-in. The mirror plate exhibits some small areas of blemishes and occlusions to the silvering.
