Victorian Sterling Silver-Mounted Engraved Glass Claret Jug, hallmarked Sheffield, 1877-1878, by W. & G. Sissons, of ovoid form, the glass body wheel-engraved with ferns and flowers, with beaded silver collar, foot and arched handle, engraved on the collar with a crest of a swan over the motto "Fideliter", h. 11-1/4", l. 6".


  • Condition: Overall Condition: Very Good. No condition issued noted beyond the expected signs of age and minimal use. The collar has an engraved crest and motto (a vulning pelican, "Fideliter") not mentioned in the description. Hallmarked (on the lower edge of the collar) with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the Sheffield crown; 3) the date letter "K" for 1877-1878; 4) the Victoria's bust duty mark; and 5) the "WS/GS" in a quatrefoil maker's mark of W. & G. Sissons. The underside of the lid and foot part-marked.
