Victorian Sterling Silver Aesthetic Sugar Basket


  • Condition: Overall Condition: Good. One end of the foot is dented slightly upwards, but otherwise very good with no condition issues noted beyond light wear consistent with age. Traces of gilt on the rim and handle. Very nice detail. Hallmarked (on the rim, near the handle) with: 1) the sterling lion passant, 2) the London leopard's head, 3) the date letter "D" for 1879-1880, 4) the Victoria's bust duty mark, and 5) the maker's mark, defaced as noted. The handle part-marked. Marks sharp and clean (the defaced mark excepted). Also engraved on the underside with the retailer's mark "Elkington & Co. / Liverpool" and the pattern number 3270.
