Chinese Painted Pottery Figure of a Prancing Horse, Tang Dynasty (618-906), a lively depiction of a dressage horse with raised right and front legs, with a cloth-covered saddle draped across the figure's back, traces of red, black and white pigments, presented on an ebonized wood base, figure, h. 20-1/2", w. 7", l. 24-1/2", overall, h. 22-1/4", w. 8". Provenance: Christie's East, New York, September 22, 1998, lot 1; The Flatt Collection.


  • Condition: Some old professional restoration on the back legs, front right leg and a few barely visible hairline cracks around the front right hoof. An old repair on the saddle. Scattered old minor nicks and abrasions and soiling. A small loss on the tail. Object retains structural and aesthetic integrity and all wear is consistent and expected with age and material.
