Pair of George IV Old Sheffield Plate Entree Dishes

first quarter 19th century, each of rounded and concave rectangular form with shell-and-gadroon banding, the fitted lids en suite with addorsed oak branch ring handles, all above a conforming warming stand with gadrooned banding, scroll-mantled lion's paw feet and reeded scroll-mounted baluster handles, engraved on the lid with the arms of Carlton.
overall h. 7-1/4", l. 13-3/4", w. 9-3/4"

  • Condition: **In generally good used condition. The scrolls of the handles have some bleeding to the copper base, as do the underside corners of one dish. The edging has wear exposing lead core at the highest relief. Knife scratches on the plateaux, though none deep enough to reach the copper base. The steam plate of one warming stand is detached but present. Minor dents to the feet. Excellent armorial. No maker's marks. A very attractive pair with no significant visible issues.
