Regency Tortoiseshell Tea Caddy
second quarter 19th century, English, the unusual caddy with engaged column corners and sides with beveled corners, under a cove-molded cover, veneered with tortoiseshell sections divided with silver inlay, the two-compartment interior set with tortoiseshell covers labeled "Indian Tea" on the bottom of one and "China Tea" on the other.

Condition: **Tortoise-covered exterior with scattered small cracks and a horizontal open buckle below one hinge. The back, front and side tortoise panels with some lemon peel appearance to the varnish. Front edge of the cover with a small touch-up (1/4" x 1/2"). The lower rear corners and one lower front corner with old professional inpainted restoration. Locking mechanism not operable. The cover interior lined with worn claret velvet. The compartments and their covers retain remnants of the original paktong lining. Small splits and areas of discoloration to the tortoise of the cover and box interior trim.
